CD Players All Over the Country Ejecting New Ashlee Simpson CD.
Los Angeles - Pop star Ashlee Simpson released her new album last week titled, “I am Me.” Fans have flocked to record store purchasing her album to make it number one on the billboard charts this week edging out Rod Stewart latest record for the number one spot. Even though record sales have been good, apparently her record label Geffen Records has had numerous reports of her CD not playing in home and car stereos. Officially Geffen has said that the problem was less than 1 percent of the CDs sold. An un-named source at Geffen Records however, said that the problem was in fact widespread and more than 50 percent of the CDs sold have the problem. Most consumers CD players are formatted to read only music CDs, unlike computer CD-ROMs that can read multiple formats of Compact Disc contents, a car or home stereo will simply eject a CD if it doesn’t contain music and usually give an error message. Some of the error messages that are being reported are: “Error,” “No disc,” “Not Music CD, “Not Readable,” “Terrible Music,” and “Jesus Christ oh God.” Many industry experts believe that the horrific singing style of Simpson has “confused” the CD players into thinking that there is something wrong with the discs much like a scratched or damaged disc. The proof is the fact that most Japanese manufactured CD players can play the CD. With the exception of Cher’s music, Japan is notorious for putting out some of the worst sounding music on the planet (i.e. Yoko Ono), and the Japanese manufactured players are built to play any sounds as awful as they may be. Geffen however, contends that, the CDs are in fact formatted for music, and the [terrible] singing has nothing to do with the errors. “We believe that the problems with the small number of CDs are due to a pressing issue at the factory and we will replace any CDs that are reported to have a problem,” a Geffen official said Monday. Some locals are still skeptical, John Larson an official from the San Diego Zoo, said that while he hasn’t heard the new CD, the background music at many of the exhibits at his Zoo, plays a local Pop radio station and when an Ashlee Simpson song comes on, it usually incites riots among the different animal groups, and some more intelligent animals like the primates have been known to jam large sticks in their ears. When reached for comment about the problem, Ashlee Simpson said, “My acid reflux was acting up while recording the album. I think?”
